Flodden 500 – 31st July 2012

Today Ian from Borders Journeys and John Nichol from IDEOMS Theatre Company attended Flodden 500 Stakeholders Meeting at St. Cuthbert’s Community Centre in Coldstream. Lord Joicey welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced Kendra Turnbull who facilitated the meeting. There are currently 109 projects on both sides of the border that are being organised for Flodden 500 during 2013. Today was an opportunity for participants to hear about some of the projects plus meet, network and exchange ideas. It was a great day to renew and make new acquaintances. Minutes of the meeting will appear here soon.

Borders Journeys will be participating in Flodden 500 by organising tours throughout 2013 to many of the commemorative events as well providing guided tours to sites  associated with the Battle of Flodden.

IDEOMS Theatre Company are performing ‘Soddin Flodden‘ at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 14th-19th August 2012.  Borders Journeys are providing transport to the performances on 14th, 15th and 17th August 2012.

Following a delicious buffet lunch we were joined by Lady Steel plus John’s daughter Eilidh and her friend Shannon on a trip to Flodden Field. We firstly stopped at St. Paul’s Church, Branxton to purchase copies of ‘The Battle of Flodden’ by Jane Bell. At Flodden Field we had a photo session for IDEOMS Theatre Group’s ‘Soddin Flodden’ programme. Following the photo session, Eilidh got into the spirit of the occasion by having her photo taken wearing her dad’s helmet and wielding the sword. A family visiting Flodden Field at the same time had their photograph taken wearing the helmet and wielding the sword.
