Prestonkirk Mill – Outlander Film Set

Prestonkirk Mill at East Linton in East Lothian featured in Outlander Series 1 Episode 12 - Lallybroch

There has been a mill on the site of Prestonkirk Mill since the 16th century, however the present buildings date from the 18th century. The mill was used commercially until 1959 and is now owned and maintained by the National Trust for Scotland.

Outlander fans will recognise the mill as part of the film set from Series One Episode 12 – Lallybroch. It was here that Jamie attempts to repair the mill wheel when a troop of Redcoats appear on patrol. Jamie hides under the water while Claire and Jenny have to ‘act as normal and smile’ until the troop ride on.

Over the coming weeks I’ll be visiting other visitor attractions used as film sets for Outlander.

Have you ever dreamed of standing on the steps of Lallybroch or visiting the stones at Craigh na Dun?

I will create a tailor-made Outlander tour for you where you will walk in the footsteps of Jamie and Claire and follow their adventures. You will discover the places that inspired Diana Gabaldon’s writings along with visiting Outlander film locations. Your tour will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty, history and culture of Scotland – some of which will be very familiar to Jamie and Claire.
