Outlander Filming in Edinburgh

Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) & Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) - Filming of Outlander Season 3 in EdinburghLast week was certainly an interesting one witnessing the filming of Outlander Season 3 in Edinburgh. Season 3 is based on Diana Gabaldon’s third book – Voyager.

The Outlander trilogy follows the adventures of Jamie and Claire Fraser in Scotland and further afield (I won’t say where as I don’t want to spoil the storyline for those who haven’t read Voyager).

The filming that I was lucky enough to see took place around Edinburgh’s High Street and Canongate (Royal Mile) in Tweeddale Court and Bakehouse Close. There was much interest from fans of the TV show at the arrival and departures of the main characters, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). On Thursday I was delighted to speak to Sam and Catriona albeit briefly plus see two of the other main characters in the storyline Fergus Fraser (Jamie & Claire’s adopted son played by César Domboy) and Young Ian Murray (Jamie’s nephew played by John Bell). All four spent a lot of time chatting to fans and posing for photographs which was much appreciated.

It was great meeting fellow fans and tours guides during the filming while discussing and second guessing what was actually being filmed from the storyline. Watching the filming take place has really added to the excitement of seeing the new series of Outlander which is scheduled to begin in April.
