From Melrose we travel south to the southern Borders market town of Hawick. Famous for its knitwear factories we will visit Johnstons of Elgin Cashmere Visitor Centre and then learn about the history of the Borders knitwear industry at the Textile Towerhouse. We will then travel south through land steeped in the history of the Borders Reivers into Dumfriesshire. Passing through Langholm we travel along the Esk Valley to Eskdalemuir where we find Samye Ling Tibetan Centre. Samye Ling was founded in 1967 and was the first Tibetan Centre in the West; the imposing Buddhist Temple with its stunning decoration is a ‘must see’. We travel back to Melrose via the lovely Ettrick Valley.
