Carolyn, Gary & Marilyn’s Grand Tour

Carolyn, Gary & Marilyn - Borders Journeys

Carolyn, Gary & Marilyn with Ian at Luss, Hadrian’s Wall and Bettys Tea Room

Carolyn, Gary & Marilyn were recently on their third tour with Borders Journeys.

The first day was spent in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park as Gary wanted to learn more about his Colquhoun ancestry. We spent the bulk of the day at Luss on the ‘Bonnie Banks’ of Loch Lomond where Gary learned about the history of the Colquhoun family and found several family headstones in the churchyard.

We were indebted to Luss Estates who gave us permission to visit the ruins of Rossdhu Castle, Rossdhu House and St Mary’s Chapel. All three properties are now in the grounds of Loch Lomond Golf Club. Rossdhu Castle dates from the mid-15th century. Rossdhu House dates from the 1770s. St Mary’s Chapel dates from 1469 and is the burial place for generations of the Colquhoun of Luss Clan Chiefs.

The current Chief of Clan Colquhoun is Sir Malcolm Colquhoun of Luss, 32nd Laird and 9th Baronet of Luss.

On her return home Carolyn wrote a lovely review on TripAdvisor reflecting her, Gary & Marilyn’s tour:

“This was our third private tour with Borders Journeys. Recommend without reservation. See what you want to see, spend how long you want to spend there, leave the stressful driving to Ian Walker / Borders Journeys and enjoy his knowledgeable and passionate commentary. Two of our tours were multiple countries and one was Scotland only. This trip included a couple day in Scotland, couple days in Wales and 4 days in England. Very thoughtful and considerate, doing all that is possible to make sure your holiday is wonderful. Ian picked us up at the airport in his minibus and knew great places to stop for food and sights. Very good value and price compares favorably to the big group bus tours where the itinerary is set by tour company.”
