Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Berwickshire Coast

Cove, Holy Island of Lindisfarne & Bamburgh Castle

Our first visit is at the picturesque and tranquil fishing harbour of Cove. The harbour was a popular subject for ‘The Glasgow Boys’ who based themselves in the area during the 19th century.

Travelling south we pass through borderlands between Scotland and England that has changed hands many times over the centuries; it’s at Berwick-upon-Tweed that we cross the border into England. One of the jewels of Northumberland is the idyllic island of Holy Island of Lindisfarne; the island has been a religious community since St. Aidan built the first monastery in 635AD. Today’s visitors to Holy Island enjoy visiting the Lindisfarne Centre, Castle and Priory.

Leaving Holy Island we travel a short distance along the beautiful Northumbrian Coast to Bamburgh. The town is dominated by its 12th century castle and is home to stunning beaches with spectacular views to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and Farne Islands. There will be time to explore the town, castle and stunning beaches.

We start our journey north by visiting site of the Battle of Flodden in 1513. We cross the border into Scotland at Coldstream then travel through the beautiful Scottish Borders countryside on the journey home.
